Appreciate your taking Vance's ideas seriously when most people are still focused on personalities. I think you hit the nail on the head about the idea of "unbiased" AI, and it's one of the reasons I doubt it will be as transformational as people claim.
And of course anybody who quotes Keynes must be doing something right. (Also, what a perfect use of that quote! AI will ensure that we are slaves of defunct thinkers forever).
As I get older Keynes gets wise. I'm a fan of AI, I just think there's a lot of hype. So many useful applications, if that's where we'd put our focus. Just heard a podcast that talked about AI being a major driver growth in the U.S. economy (both in and of itself, and its need for power and power infrastructure.) I referenced the observation, but I can't help but note, if these massive investments don't turn a profit, that market could implode with ripple effects.
